A PRACTICAL NO-DIG INSTALLATION METHOD
Fast and Reliable Impact Moling Services
Impact moling is a trenchless method used to install underground pipework without excavating a continuous open trench. MJY Utilities provides impact moling for domestic, commercial and development projects across Walsall, Wolverhampton and the wider West Midlands.
The process uses a pneumatic machine known as a mole, which travels through the ground between carefully selected access points. As the mole moves forward, it creates an underground route through which new water supply pipework can be installed.
This method can be particularly useful when a new or replacement pipe needs to pass beneath a garden, driveway, pathway, paved area or commercial surface. By limiting excavation to smaller launch and reception pits, impact moling can reduce the amount of surface disturbance and reinstatement required.
Before recommending impact moling, our team assesses the proposed pipe route, ground conditions, access and the position of existing underground services. We can then explain whether moling, conventional excavation or a combination of both methods offers the most practical solution.
REDUCING EXCAVATION AROUND YOUR PROPERTY
The Benefits of Impact Moling
Impact moling is commonly used when replacing ageing lead, copper or alkathene water supply pipes with modern MDPE pipework. It can also be used for new water connections, private supplies, pipe diversions and underground utility ducting where the site is suitable.
Because the full pipe route does not need to be opened, moling can help protect established gardens, driveways, paths and landscaped areas. It may also reduce the time and cost associated with excavating and reinstating large sections of finished surface.
The method still requires carefully positioned access pits at the beginning and end of each run. Additional access points may also be needed for longer routes, changes in direction or connections along the installation.
Impact moling is not suitable for every property. Very hard or unstable ground, buried structures, tree roots and existing services can affect the proposed route. MJY Utilities will assess these factors before confirming how the new pipe should be installed.
