Trenchless Technology in Walsall & Wolverhampton

Modern trenchless solutions for underground water pipe installations and replacements across Walsall, Wolverhampton and the wider West Midlands.

A PRACTICAL ALTERNATIVE TO OPEN TRENCH EXCAVATION

What Is Trenchless Technology?

Trenchless technology allows underground water pipes and utility services to be installed with less surface excavation than traditional open trench methods. MJY Utilities uses trenchless techniques for suitable domestic, commercial and development projects across Walsall, Wolverhampton and the wider West Midlands.

Rather than digging a continuous trench along the full pipe route, access points are created at selected positions. Specialist equipment can then form an underground route through which new pipework is installed. This can significantly reduce the amount of ground, paving or landscaping that needs to be disturbed.

Trenchless installation can be particularly useful where water pipes need to pass beneath driveways, gardens, footpaths, commercial yards and other finished surfaces. It can also help on properties where access is restricted or where conventional excavation would cause considerable disruption.

The method used will depend on the length and route of the installation, ground conditions, existing underground services and the size of pipe required. Our team will assess the site before confirming whether trenchless installation is suitable.

When Can Trenchless Technology Be Used?

MJY Utilities commonly uses trenchless technology when installing replacement water supply pipes or creating new underground water connections. It may also be suitable when an ageing lead, copper or alkathene supply needs to be upgraded to modern MDPE pipework.

One method we use is impact moling. A pneumatic mole travels through the ground between carefully positioned access points, forming a route for the new pipe. This avoids the need to excavate the entire distance between the property and the boundary connection.

Trenchless technology can reduce disruption, but it is not suitable for every site. Difficult ground, underground obstructions, nearby services or changes in the required pipe route may mean that sections of conventional excavation are still needed.

Following a site assessment, MJY Utilities will explain the proposed installation route and whether trenchless technology, traditional excavation or a combination of methods offers the most practical solution.
